Aaron ‘AZR’ Ward is an Australian professional cyber athlete who trains in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for Renegades. He trains in the rifler position for his squad, playing scrims from 2 pm until 10 pm so as to improve on their CS strategies ahead of the esports leagues.
If he had the opportunity to live the same age for a lifetime, he would want to be 20 to 25 years old, having fun doing his thing. Most of the time when he is away from home, Aaron misses his mother’s cooking of Asian food. When he was still a kid, he wanted to be a doctor but later on in his life, he wanted to be a football player. One of the all-time favourite movies that Ward likes to watch is The Godfather.
Where it all began:
Aaron loved to play football in his younger days that gave him the motivation to be a better team player. Ward fulfilled his dream of becoming a professional player back in 2012 competing for Vox Eminor until 2015. Learning new strategies and improving his mistakes, he moved on with Legion before joining Renegades.
The Team:
Renegades is an Australian esports company that was established in March 2015 by Christopher ‘MonetCristo’ Mykles, originally under the name ‘Misfits’. Becoming the leading esports team in Australia, they have expanded their gaming company to support team that compete in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Call of Duty, Super Smash Brothers and Rocket League.
Renegades created their CSGO squad in the summer of 2016 with an idea of recruiting a team based in North America. The current Counter-Strike: Global Offensive lineup consists of AZR, jks, Ustilo, Nifty as their team captain and jkaem as the latest addition as a temporary stand-in.
Competition Participation:
AZR and his team, Renegades have recently participated in CSGO tournaments such as the North American Qualifiers of DreamHack Masters Marseille 2018. Add to this the recent premier and major CS matches such as IEM Katowice 2018, StarLadder & i-League StarSeries Season 4, Eleague Major Boston 2018, ECS Season 4, IEM Oakland and iBUYPOWER Masters 2017.
Learning from his mistakes and improving on his gaming strategies, Renegades AZR has had the pleasure of competing against top esports teams such as Cloud9, Faze Clan, Team Liquid, AVANGAR, BIG, Misfits and NRG.
Winnings:
The greatest win so far in AZR’s gaming career was at the StarLadder i-League Invitational #2. Going through the Group stages, Renegades defeated HAVU to finish in the main event. Having reached the Playoffs, the CSGO unit beat Virtus.Pro in the finals with an incredible record of 2-0, winning the major title and proudly claiming a surprising $75K.
The second great accomplishment was at Eleague Season 1 while AZR was competing for the Renegades. Reaching the Last Chance Bracket just before the Playoffs, RNG fought for a spot in the main event. However, they lost to a top team, Virtus.Pro in Round of 4 matches with a score of 0-2, where the unit finished in 9th place, taking home their reward of a remarkable $40K.
