Jacky ‘EternalEnVy’ Mao

Jacky ‘EternalEnVy’ Mao is a 26-year-old Canadian professional gamer who is practicing Dota 2 for Fnatic. His responsibility towards his team is that of a captain by carrying his unit with signature heroes like Luna, Ember Spirit and Spectre to ultimately win esports tournaments. His gaming experience with other teams has given him the skills to handle other roles like support and midlane which can be helpful in different situations in-game.

Out of all the Fnatic team, EternalEnVy is only the one who watches anime. Some of his favourites include Kokoro Connect, Toradora, Clanned: After Story, Kanon and Code Geass: Hangyakuno Lelouch R2. As for music, Jacky listens to a variety of genres like trance, instrumental, anime and gaming soundtracks and rap.

Where it all began:

Jacky became interested in gaming through his friends in fact the first few games he played was Heroes of Newerth and Starcraft. This led him to experience competitive gaming in HON with a team called Deal With It that ranked second for a few months.

He liked the idea of earning a salary while playing video games so he decided take on professional gaming full time. Not turning back on his decision, he put up a post on Liquid Dota back in 2011, saying that he will stop attending University to pursue a professional esports career in Dota 2. He received countless negative feedback, saying that his dream is impossible to achieve.

No matter what people said, he still did what he wanted, fulfilling his dream, he started playing in April 2012 with his first esports team No Tidehunter. Seven years have passed and Mao is still going strong, playing Dota 2 for Fnatic.

The Team:

Fnatic is a UK esports association established in July 2004. The company currently supports professional players that compete in different video games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, Dota 2, Heroes of the Storm, Vainglory, Rocket League and FIFA Esports.

One of the favourites in the Dota 2 scene in South East Asia is in fact Fnatic since their creation of the roster in November 2011. The unit has had more success overall in 2017 ranking in top four in most of the esports competitions. This is due to the strong gameplays of the pro players, EternalEnVy as captain, Abed, Ohaiyo, DJ and pieliedie.

Competition Participation:

Since EternalEnVy has joined Fnatic, the Dota 2 squad have participated in the premier DreamLeague Season 8, Galaxy Battles II qualifiers, MDL Macau SEA Qualifier, Dota Summit 8 Qualifier, ESL One Hamburg as well as The International 2017.

Winnings:

The highest earnings won by EnternalEnVy and Team Secret was at The Shanghai Major 2016. Reaching the Grand Final, Secret fought against Liquid with a record 3-1, taking the championship title to proudly claim a reward of a staggering $1.1 million.

Second greatest achievement was while Mao was playing for Cloud 9 at The International 2014. The squad lost to Vici Gaming in the Lower Brackets Round 2 with the score 1-2, despite the loss, C9 ranked in sixth place to take home a prize of a stunning $655K.

EternalEnVy took part in the The Frankfurt Major 2015, playing for Team Secret at the time. They lost to top team OG with the score of 1-3, however finishing in second place, Secret took home a prize of $405K.
