OGN APEX Season 1 finals

OnGameNet is hosting the biggest Overwatch event in South Korea, the OGN Apex Season 1 Finals. The Korean tournament started on the 7th October and ends on the 3rd December. Esports is very popular in South Korea, where training, competitive gaming and hosting premier events has taken a professional approach. This prestigious match will feature a variety of Korean teams as well as four Western units.

On the 7th October, the OGN Apex competition started with sixteen squads competing in OW. Some of these units are worldly familiar to esports fans, some of which have participated in GosuGamers weekly competitions. These Korean groups include Afreeca Freecs Blue, MVP Space, BK Stars, LW Blue, Rhinos Gaming Titan, Flash Nox, Mighty Storm, Kongdoo #1, Kongdoo #2, Runaway, T6 and Lunatic-Hai. Two North American teams NV and NRG Esports were invited to take part as well as European squads Rogue and Reunited.

ENVYUS

Just a few days before the Quarterfinal competition against Rogue, Ronnie ‘Talespin’ Dupree left the squad. Due to this abrupt change, Jonathan ‘Harryhook’ Tendor Rua is playing the DPS role. In the meantime, to replace Talespin, NV found Mickie, a Thai player, who plays for Team WeedTime as their Temporary stand in. Despite these changes, EnVyUs held it together, beating Rogue and KongDoo Uncia in the Semi-finals.

AF BLUE

A Korean team that was created in August 2016 has made it to the finals of OGN Apex. A group made up of seven players, yesman, Dayfly, Rud, Recry, ArHan, adam and Jin, who bring out their talent in different Overwatch strategy maps. On their way to the finals, they beat Reunited and BK Stars. This is certainly quite an accomplishment for the team, being invited to an event like OGN Overwatch Apex.

Which esports team has what it takes to be the first champions of OGN Overwatch Apex? An American squad that held it together despite the odds or a rising Korean unit – the result will be revealed on the  3rd December, in the final.
