Sasha ‘Scarlett’ Hostyn is a Canadian 23-year-old gamer that hails from Kingston, Ontario. In the Starcraft scene, Scarlett is also known as ‘Korean Kryptonite’ for her capabilities of beating Korean players at their game. She is mostly known as ‘The Queen of Blades’ for her Zergling playstyle in Starcraft II.
Other than Starcraft, Scarlett likes to play Magic: The Gathering and is also a famous Warcraft mapmaker. During her breaks from gaming, Sasha’s favourite foods include corn on the cob as well as Mexican food like spicy salsa that she makes herself.
Where it all began:
Hostyn grew up playing video games like DotA and Warcraft as a pastime. Sasha started playing competitively in Starcraft in 2012, making a name for herself in the world of esports. Sasha is a fan of cyber athlete, MarineKing but her favourite Korean gamer is Ryung with whom she teamed up with for the Axiom-Acer partnership.
The Team:
In August 2016, Scarlett joins Team expert, a German esports division within Expert International GmbH, a computer manufacturer. Team expert supports units in games like Fifa, TrackMania, League of Legends and Starcraft II.
Competition Participation:
Hostyn’s big break was early 2012 at the Playhem ‘Sponsor Me!’ Tournament, where she performed so well, they awarded her a sponsored trip to attend the IGN ProLeague Season 4 in Las Vegas. Esports fans were curious to know all about the new player Scarlett.
Sasha participated in Premier tournaments such as 2013 WCS Season 2 America, 2014 MLG Anaheim and Red Bull Battle Grounds New York City. Among the Major events Scarlett attended the World Cyber Arena 2016: Americas Qualifier, Kings of the North Season 3, MSI Pro Cup Worldwide and IPL D. I. C. E. Showdown among others.
Winnings:
Her great achievement for Scarlett was achieving a Guinness World Record for the highest earnings for a female player on 5th October 2016. Scarlett is the only female player to win a professional Starcraft Tournament on Korean TV and managed to beat her male opponents.
Scarlett won first prize in some of the Starcraft tournaments like Battle.net North America Championship in 2012 winning against ViBE taking home a overwhelming prize of $24K.
