PGL, EveryGoodGame and ImbaTV will be organising a Dota 2 tournament, The Kuala Lumpur Major 2018. The event will take place between the 9th until 18th November at the Axiata Arena in Malaysia. Sixteen dota teams will go head to head against each other for their hopeful large share from a total prize pool of a jaw-dropping $1 million.
The premier match marks the very first digital festival of the dota 2 season 2018/2019. The teams’ success of playing their best gameplays in the tournament will be vital, paving their way to The International 9, which in 2019 will be held in China. The Kuala Lumpur Major event forms part of the Dota Pro Circuit, in fact, there is a valuable 15K DPC points which will be distributed among the top esports teams according to the placings in the competition.
Valve revealed that there will not be any direct invitations but teams will have to fight for their spot in the main event. "The Major qualifier will run first, and teams who do not qualify for the Major will be eligible to compete in the Minor qualifiers a few days later. The winner of the Minor Main Event will have a reserved slot in the respective Major happening shortly afterwards."
The Kuala Lumpur Major will kick off with the Group Stages, with 16 units divided into four groups of four teams. They will get to square off each other in a best-of-three double elimination bracket. The top two units from each set will progress on to the Playoffs in the main event while the bottom two will get to play for another chance in the Lower Brackets.
The Kuala Lumpur Major 2018 main event will kick off on the 11th until 18th November, where all teams will compete in a double elimination bracket, in front of a live cheery crowd. All games happening from the Upper Bracket Round 1 and Lower Brackets Round 2 will be best-of-three. The top two dota teams in the Kuala Lumpur Major will meet in the Grand Finals in a best-of-five to compete and win the first prize of $350K.
Fifteen teams had to compete their way through the qualifying matches from different regions. Representing the European region are Team Secret, Ninjas in Pyjamas and Alliance while for The Chinese region are PSG.LGD, Vici Gaming and Team Aster. For North America the top units competing for their region are Evil Geniuses, Forward Gaming and J.Storm as for South America teams like PaiN Gaming and PaiN X will be participating. The competitive teams from the CIS region are Virtus.Pro and Gambit Esports while for the Southeast Asia regional units will be Fnatic and TNC Predator.
Some Top Dota 2 Teams at The Kuala Lumpur Major 2018
The Malaysian dota 2 team, Tigers managed to win the Dream League Season 10 to acquire their spot at the Kuala Lumpur Major. The squad beat Natus Vincere with an incredible score of 3-2 to win the title. Sivatheeban “1437” Sivanathapillai is the star player for his decisive drafts as captain and his support plays, winning the MVP award at DreamLeague.
The squad have played together under Tigers since September where they won their first event they attended the Southeast Cyber Arena 2018 Finals in Jakarta.
Competing for Europe, Alliance acquired their spot as the third team finishing in the lower brackets losing to Ninjas in Pyjamas. Their recent elimination from ESL One Hamburg in the group stages showed just how much more they need to improve their strategical plays. Having experienced the loss so early in the event, Alliance have learnt from their mistakes and hope to achieve better results at the Kuala Lumpur Major.
Representing the European region, Team Secret outplayed Liquid, the TI 7 winners sending them to the lower brackets. Reaching the finals of the Europe Qualifier Secret defeated Ninjas in Pyjamas 2-0. This dota 2 unit have high hopes after winning the ESL One Hamburg 2018 title, beating Vici Gaming with an incredible close score 3-2.
The top dota 2 team Fnatic will be representing Southeast Asia region at Kuala Lumpur Major. FNC were the first team to qualify for a place in the major after beating the likes of Team Admiral and overcoming TNC Predator twice, once in the Upper Bracket Finals and in the Regional Grand Final. As Fnatic players of Dota 2 they hope to dominate the event and achieve better results.
