Johnny ‘Altec’ Ru is a Canadian League of Legends player hailing from Vancouver, British Colombia. He is currently playing for Team Dignitas as their AD Carry, performing with his LOL heroes, Ezreal, Vayne, Varus and Caitlyn. With over six years of training and competing in League of Legends competitions, it is no surprise, that Altec is described as one of the best AD carries in North America by pro players like Xpecial and Sneaky.
In his early days of gaming, Johnny looked up to pro player Doublelift and inspire him to use some of his League of Legends strategies. Now having been competing for a number of years, Ru has formed his own playstyle, predicting situations with the ability to adapt as well as the mechanical moves. His dream team of League of Legends players would consist of Zion, Meteos, Lemon, Jesiz, Tabz and Voyboy.
Where it all began:
When Johnny was around 8 years old, he started playing video games like Runescape and Maplestory. His cousin used to play League of Legends and was encouraged to try out the game. After school every day, he would practice playing LOL and keep updated with the esports scene, watching streams like those of Hotshot and WCG. He made it his mission to play with the best players and started to rank higher in solo queue.
Altec’s gaming career in League of Legends all started with Team Wish back in April 2012. Developing his skills and abilities, he has played for top teams like Team Solomid, Cloud9, Evil Genuises, NRG and FlyQuest Esports.
The Team:
Team Dignitas is an esports organisation that was established in September 2003, based in United Kingdom. The gaming company started out with two professional teams that competed in Battlefield 1942. Over the years electronic gaming grew in popularity which led Dignitas to support teams that specialise in CS: GO, League of Legends, Smite, Heroes of the Storm and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
Team Dignitas signed on a League of Legends team back in February 2011 thanks to the success of the former Rock Solid players, The squad became one of the leading esports teams of the time. Today, the Dignitas LOL roster consists of Ssumday, ShrimP, Keane, LOD, Altec, Big and Adrian who together will take their team to new heights.
Competition Participation and Winnings:
The highest win for Johnny Ru was while playing for FlyQuest Esports participating at Riot’s NA LCS 2017 Spring. The LOL squad lost to top team Phoenix1 with a record of 2-3, finishing in the semi-finals to rank in fourth to win a prize of $20K.
Another great accomplishment for Altec was while with Dignitas competing at the North American League of Legends Championship Series 2017 Summer. Reaching the finals the LOL squad lost to Counter Logic Gaming to rank in fourth place, claiming a reward of $20K.
Among other League of Legends tournaments, Altec participated were Lone Star Clash, Gfinity Invitational 1, MLG 2013 Spring Championship Promotion and We will do it Ourselves Cup. He has also taken part in the LOL Championship Series Spring and Summer seasons of 2015 and 2016 as well as in the most recent North American LCS Regional Qualifiers 2017.
