Jiajun 'Sylar' Liu is a professional gamer that hails from China. In the esports Dota 2 scene, he plays the carry position for VGJ.Thunder, implementing his best gameplays with signature Dota 2 heroes like Lycan, Morphling and Anti Mage.
Sylar is known to have an odd habit of placing tissue paper on the mouse buttons and on the keyboard. Unusual as it may sound, it could turn out to be just hygiene practice or perhaps his way of protecting his identity so as not to leave any fingerprints…
Where it all began:
Liu’s developed an interest in video games through his cousin. Since they used to live together as kids, he would watch his relative play games on his personal computer. Eventually he was encouraged to try the video game, Defense of the Ancients and has never stopped gaming since then.
Jiajun’s professional esports career took off in 2010 playing DotA for his first team World Elite. Later that same year, Sylar made the smooth transition to Dota 2 joining LGD.cn. He Improved on his mistakes and learning new tactics joining other top esports teams like Rising Stars, Vici Gaming, and EHOME.
VGJ. Thunder is a Chinese esports team that was created by Vici Gaming and the professional basketball player, Jeremy Lin in agreement. In September 2017, the squad rebranded to its current name and added a North American team known as VGJ.Storm.
VGJ.Thunder have signed on a new roster since 6th September 2017, consisting of pro players such as Fade as team captain, Sylar, Freeze, Yang and the latest addition of ddc who is on loan from LFY – Forever Young.
Jiajun has participated in the latest premier and major tournaments such as Dota 2 Asia Championships 2018, GESC: Indonesia Dota 2 Minor, The Bucharest Major, ESL One Genting 2018, Galaxy battles II: Emerging worlds and China Top 17. Some of the China qualifying matches that Sylar and VGJ.Thunder have taken part in also include EPICENTER XL, StarLadder i-League Invitational #4 and ESL One Katowice 2018.
Sylar has been competing for VGJ.Thunder since September 2017. He has gained the competitive experience against other top esports teams like LFY - Forever Young, Vici Gaming, Evil Geniuses, EHOME, Newbee, TNC Pro Team, Virtus.Pro and Team Liquid.
The greatest accomplishment for Jiajun was at The International 5 playing for LGD Gaming. After going through the Group Stages, they started in the Upper brackets round 1, where LGD beat Team Empire. Moving on to UB Round 2 the match saw LGD lose to CDEC Gaming which led them to proceed in the Lower Brackets Round 4. Advancing in the tournament, Sylar and LGD beat Virtus.Pro and Vici Gaming. The Chinese dota squad finished in third place defeated by Evil Geniuses in the LB Finals, taking home a jaw-dropping prize of $2.2 million.
The second biggest reward for Sylar was while competing for Vici Gaming at The International 2014. Going through the main event Sylar and VG beat the likes of Cloud9, Team DK, Evil Geniuses. Reaching the Grand Finals, the dota 2 team lost to the TI4 champions Newbee, Vici finished in a close second place scooping a prize of an astonishing $1.4 million.
