The event organisers, StarLadder in collaboration with ImbaTV have announced The Chongqing Major 2019. The esports event will take place between the 19th till the 27 January 2019, where international 16 esports teams will travel to China to compete in Dota 2 for a total prize of a whopping $1 million.


This Dota 2 Major forms part of the Pro Circuit where 15K points are up for grabs in preparation for the upcoming International 2019. On top of this, to reach massive audiences worldwide, StarLadder will have broadcasting teams from Britain, Russia and China to help put up a top-notch gaming show.


All gaming fans and professional players who have never travelled to China will have the chance to do some sightseeing in China. Known as the Mountain City, Chongqing is one of the biggest bustling cities, famous for its spicy food, historical heritage, spectacular city and natural landscapes.

The participating teams had to go through the Open and Regional qualifying matches over the past few weeks. Top units that will represent Europe are Team Liquid, Team Secret and Alliance as well as from CIS region Virtus. Pro and NoPangolier. For the Chinese region are Team Aster, Vici Gaming and PSG.LGD while for South East Asia are Fnatic and TNC Predator. Competing for North America are J.Storm, Forward Gaming and Evil Genuises as well as South American teams, PaiN Gaming and Thunder Predator. One more spot is available for the lucky esports squad that wins The Bucharest Minor who will automatically progress to the Chongqing Major 2019.

The North American esports team known as J.Storm was rebranded from Team VGJ. Storm. They acquired their gaming experience together participating at the premier events such as China Dota 2 Supermajor and The International 8. Competing under newly formed esports company J.Storm, the lineup consists of David 'Moo' Hull, Jonathan 'Bryle' De Gula, Lee 'FoRev' Sang-don, Milan 'MiLAN' Kozomara and the team captain Park 'March' Tae-won. The squad played in the World Showdown of Esports #1 finishing in second place and at The Kuala Lumpur Major and more recently at the North American qualifiers of the Dota 2 Major Chongqing qualifier, beating Forward Gaming where they acquired first place.

The Brazilian esports team, PaiN Gaming have had quite a few successes that made a name for themselves in the esports world. Some of the best results include winning first at WESG 2017 South America Finals and finished in second place at World Electronic Sports Games 2017. Other dota tournaments, PaiN Gaming, have competed were at the ESL One Birmingham 2018 and ESL One Hamburg 2018. The new lineup formed last September added Rasmus 'Misery' Berth Filipsen who used to play for Optic and Evil Geniuses. After their participation at The International 2018, a new FNC lineup announced last September. The current dota 2 roster consists of Pyo 'MP' No-a, Abed 'Abed' Azel Yusop, Daryl  'iceiceice' Koh Pei Xiang, Djardel 'DJ' Mampusti and the team captain Anucha 'Jabz' Jirawong.
