China Dota 2 Super Major 2018

The China Dota 2 Super Major 2018 will be organised by Perfect World in collaboration with PGL. A world-class Dota 2 tournament which will be held between 2nd until 10th June, just before The International 8, the last chance for top esports teams to acquire DPC qualifying points for their spot at such a prestigious match. Thousands of esports fans will be watching the premier tournament as the 16 squads fighting to win a reward from a prize pool of a whopping $1.5 million and around 2250 Pro Circuit points are up for grabs.

The Dota 2 Premier tournament will be taking place in the Yuanshen Sports Centre Stadium in Shanghai, China. This fierce Super tournament will determine which top 8 esports teams will get direct invitations to TI 8 in Vancouver.

The group stage will be held between the 2nd and 3rd June, where 16 pro teams will be divided into four groups of four squads. These dota matches will see the competitive units compete against each other in a Bo3 double-elimination bracket. The top two from each group will advance to the Upper brackets of the China Super Major 2018 while the bottom two will proceed to the Lower Brackets of the main event.

The Playoffs will kick off on the 4th and keep going until the 10th June in a double –elimination. The final two days will feature the China Dota 2 Super Major 2018 in front of a live cheering crowd, supporting the top units that will go head to head competing in the Grand Finals in a Bo5.

Six esports teams will be representing different regions around the world, the China qualifier PSG.LGD, for the SEA region TNC Pro Team, representing North America is VGJ.Storm. As for South America are the Infamous, the European team, The Final Tribe and representing the CIS region is Team Spirit.

Six qualified dota teams

The selection of teams invited was based on the DPC rankings just before the Dota 2 Asia Championships 2018 and this has stirred up some controversy. The first three squads that top the charts are Virtus. Pro with 8097 points, second is Team Liquid with 6084 points and third is Team Secret with 4800 points.

Seven teams invited to China Dota 2 Super Major 2018

Newbee dota 2 team

Newbee

Starting out the new year, Newbee took the title of ESL One Genting 2018 to defeat Team Liquid with a score of 3:2. However, at the StarLadder i-League Invitational Season 4, the blue knights lost to PSG.LGD and in their next event, ESL One Katowice 2018, they lost to Evil Geniuses. Since then they kept up their performance finishing in top four places except at the Dota Asia Championships 2018 and at the EPICENTER XL. Being a home team, do Newbee have the fire to win the China Dota 2 Super Major?

Vici Gaming

VG has lately won the major title of the Dota 2 Professional League Season 5 to win over Newbee with an unbeatable score of 3-0. They have accomplished to win in second place at Captains Draft 4.0 and ESL One Katowice 2018. Although Vici Gaming performed their best in tournaments, there were some disappointing results at ESL One Genting 2018, The Bucharest Major and DAC 2018. How will Vici Gaming fare at the China Super Major 2018?

VGJ.Thunder

Another great home team, VGJ.Thunder are ready to represent China if their fellow Chinese teams lose. There is no other better place to achieve greatness than in their home country, supporting them all the way. The dota 2 squad have come close in second place at The Bucharest Major, GESC: Indonesia Dota 2 Minor, StarLadder ImbaTV Invitational Season 5. Their recent disappointing results were at the Dota 2 Professional League Season 5 losing to VG and at the premier DAC 2018, defeated by Team Liquid. Does VGJ.Thunder have what it takes to finish in second or third at China Dota 2 SuperMajor 2018?

Mineski Dota 2 team

Mineski

A Southeast Asian esports team, Mineski managed to beat TNC in qualifier matches of the StarLadder, DAC and EPICENTER XL. Their most recent great achievement was winning the Dota 2 Asia Championships 2018, beating PSG.LGD with an incredible score of 3-2. Looking through their past results, do you think Mineski will finish in the top ten?

Evil Geniuses

The North American team, Evil Geniuses will be competing at the China Super Major 2018. The controversy around this team was that they were invited to the premier tournament even though EG finished in 7th-8th place in the DAC 2018, 5th-6th at GESC: Thailand and 5th-8th place at The Bucharest Major and ESL One Katowice 2018. Having received a direct invitation to China Super Major, do not expect a top 5 ranking unless they implement some great tricks, they will surely need to work for it as Navi and Fnatic are close behind in points.

Navi

Natus Vincere failed to go through the DAC CIS qualifiers losing to Effect. Their recent losses at EPICENTER XL and StarLadder ImbaTV Invitational Season 5 that begs the question, how did they get invited in the first place? A great opportunity for Navi to improve their rankings to get to the top for they do have the potential to qualify for the upcoming International 2018.

OG dota team

Team OG

Last March 2018, Resolu1ion left the dota squad, OG and have not found a pro player to replace him yet so their coach, Sébastien ‘7ckngmad’ Debs is stepping in to play at esports events. Since then OG has struggled to keep up their great performances at Premier tournaments such as ESL One Katowice 2018, The Bucharest Major, Dota 2 Asia Championships 2018 and EPICENTER XL. The results over the past few months have shown that OG will definitely find it hard to reach the finals of China Dota 2 Super Major.
