Adam ‘friberg’ Friberg is a Swedish 26-year-old cyber athlete competing in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for Optic Gaming. His responsibility towards his unit is that of in-game leader, calling all the shots while also taking on the role of entry fragger.
Aside from gaming, Friberg likes to play golf and quite a sports fan of Ice Hockey and everything that goes on in Football, so it is a sure thing that he will watch the World Cup this year. He loves to chill out on his electric guitar once in a while and rumour has it, he was quite a brilliant chef on New Year’s Eve.
Where it all began:
He began playing Counter-Strike Source playing with his friends casually. He participated in local tournaments just for fun until he realized that he was actually good in the game. He made the transition into Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and has never stopped gaming. Another video game he practised was Dota 2, in fact, he played as a substitute for the team, Vegetables Esports Club.
Friberg pursued his competitive career as a professional player when he joined his first esports team, Rockstar in back 2012. He learnt more fighting skills and strategies playing for Ninjas in Pyjamas with whom he has made quite a few successes and will continue to do more for his current unit Optic Gaming.
The Team:
Optic Gaming is an American esports company that was founded in 2006 by five COD players, who wanted to play in the competitive scene. The gaming association supports different units that compete in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Dota 2, Gears of War, Halo, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Call of Duty.
Optic Gaming created their Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team back in January 2016, signing up the former Conquest players, ShahZam, daps, RUSH, NAF, and Stanislaw. Since then the CSGO roster has changed a few times for the better of the squad and at present, the lineup consists of mixwell, Friberg as captain, allu, Magisk and HS who will work to bring their success in esports tournaments.
Competition Participation:
The latest CSGO competition that Friberg and his present team, Optic have participated include ASUS ROG Join the Republic Challenge 2018, Esports Championship Series Season 4, ESL Pro League Season 6, IEM Oakland, iBUYPOWER Masters 2017 and the EPICENTER 2017 qualifiers.
In his gaming career so far, Friberg has competed against Mousesports, Fnatic, SK Gaming, Renegades, NV, EXtatus, Cloud 9, Misfits, Space Soldiers, Astralis and Vega Squadron.
Winnings:
The greatest accomplishment for Friberg was while playing for Ninjas in Pyjamas at the StarLadder i-league StarSeries Season 2. NiP have beaten Hellraisers, Godsent in the Group Stages, defeated Astralis in the Quarterfinals, Cloud 9 in the Semi-Finals. Reaching the Grand Finals, Friberg and the Ninjas kept up their winning streak of a score 2-0 defeating G2 Esports, taking home a reward of $130K.
Friberg’s second achievement was the Intel Extreme Masters XI – Oakland while representing Ninjas in Pyjamas. Dominating the CSGO tournament, NiP defeated top CSGO teams like Mousesports, Heroic, Immortals and Faze Clan. Friberg and the Ninjas managed to reach the finals beating the top CSGO team SK Gaming, taking home a prize of $128K.
