From the get-go, the favourites to place first in group A and B for the Overwatch World Cup were China and France respectively. However, these past three days have shown that no team was to be underestimated, as both Norway and Thailand rose to the occasion to bring some opponents to their knees to shake them off.

Norway set if off against Hong Kong, taking the series 3-1, and only dropping the last map as Hong Kong managed to claw a win back at the end. The powerhouse that China is proved to be too strong, dropping them 4-0. However, they bounced back, taking a 4-0 win themselves against Romania.

On the other side in Group B, France tore through their opponents, dropping only two maps in the overall twelve they played, finding no real resistance to their dominance.

Thailand and Denmark, however, fought hard as they beat Argentina 4-0 and 3-1 respectively, as these scores later made the difference with their direct encounter ending 2-2, map difference decided who’d would go through, in this case, Thailand.

This resulted in a China vs Thailand playoff match, followed by France vs Norway, to see who would be the two teams going through to the BlizzCon 2017 finals.

As many predicted, the gap proved to be too large, as both China and France took their respective series 3-0.
